Monitoring and Measuring Success

Tue, 10/12/2010 - 03:42 -- Brian Banks

Sustainability can often seem to be difficult to define, yet finding ways to measure sustainability is crucial to ensuring that projects continue to serve communities years later. Please feel free to discuss either/both of the the questions in your response.

a. What aspects of the WASH intervention do you measure or monitor and how does this help improve sustainability?
b. When your monitoring results show you that something is not working, how do you correct this?

I understand that in WASH sector sustainability is a relative term can be used and measured with reference to the local context and its response to emerging needs of users of a particular water and sanitation system. I am wondering how sustainability of water and sanitation systems can be defined and measured in relief and early recovery phases.
